Celebrating Culture. Creating Opportunity.

Today marks the beginning of NAIDOC Week.

It’s a time to celebrate the oldest living culture in the world. A time to recognise the strength, resilience and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and an opportunity for all Australians to come together.

For me, that’s what NAIDOC Week has always represented.

A chance to celebrate culture, while also reflecting on how we can continue creating opportunities long after the celebrations have finished.

Because while NAIDOC Week lasts for seven days, the opportunity to make a difference exists during the other 51 weeks of the year.

It might be mentoring a young First Nations person.

Creating an employment opportunity.

Supporting a First Nations business.

Partnering with a First Nations organisation.

Or simply taking the time to learn more about the history, cultures and stories that have shaped our nation for more than 65,000 years.

These actions don’t have to be big.

But together, they can have a lasting impact.

I’ve seen firsthand what happens when people move beyond good intentions and into meaningful action.

Young people gain confidence.

Businesses grow.

Communities become stronger.

Partnerships are built.

And opportunities are created that can change lives.

This week, let’s celebrate everything that makes Australia unique.

Let’s celebrate the oldest living culture in the world.

Let’s celebrate the people and organisations genuinely committed to creating opportunities.

And when NAIDOC Week comes to an end, let’s make sure the momentum doesn’t.

Because the greatest way we can honour culture isn’t only by celebrating it for one week.

It’s by creating opportunities for it to thrive throughout the other 51 weeks of the year.

Happy NAIDOC Week.

Let’s celebrate culture, create opportunity and continue building a stronger Australia together.
